Snow Removal - City/District responsibilities

The City of Thornton is responsible for plowing the snow off of all streets within the neighborhood. (The City owns and maintains these streets.) The City also plows the snow off of all sidewalks located in City parks and open spaces. The following is a map showing which sidewalks and trails in and around Amber Creek are plowed by the City and by the Metro District:

District Snow Removal policies

The District's policy is for snow to be removed from the sidewalks when either (1) the snow accumulation from any snow storm is greater than 2 inches or (2) temperatures will not rise above freezing for any significant amount of time within 72 hours after the snow storm.

Snow removal services will occur no earlier than 24 hours after the end of a snow storm.

The District will also apply ice melt to the sidewalks along 136th Avenue and 134th Avenue (due to fence lines blocking sunlight to those sidewalks).
